File-Level Backup for VMware in MSP360 Backup

MSP360 Backup has been updated with support for file- and disk-level backup for VMware ESXi virtual machines starting from release 5.9.

Introduction

Previous versions of MSP360 Backup could only back up entire virtual machines without letting users exclude specific disks or files. This limitation turned out to be inconvenient for many of our customers, as some disks were quite large in volume and did not necessitate backup. In response to numerous requests, we have implemented support for file- and disk-level backup in release 5.9, meaning that from now on you can indicate specific disks and files you want to back up in the Backup Wizard.

File- and Disk-Level Backup

Selecting the disks and files you’d like to back up occurs on a dedicated step in the Backup Wizard after selecting a virtual machine. It is, in fact, possible to select multiple virtual machines for backup and then the Wizard will list disks of all virtual machines.

Disk and file selection in the updated Backup Wizard looks as follows:

selecting virtual disks in the backup wizard excluding folders

Once you've configured and executed the plan, the virtual machine will be backed up along with the specified disks and files.
